Dr. Younes Houari is presently Clinical Assistant Instructor in Neurology

the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in New York
City(SUNY). After his Baccalaureate obtained in French Lycée Descartes in
1988, he entered King Mohamed V University Medical School in Rabat and
passed successfully, being ranked number one, the highly selective
Moroccan
residency admission test, "Internat" exam. He then chose to enter a
Neurosurgery Residency with worldwide renowned Professor Abdesslam
Elkhamlichi, vice president of the International Neurosurgical
Association.
In 1998, Dr. Houari joined the SUNY Downstate center in
New York as a Neurology resident to further
his subspecialization in the Neurosciences field. This prestigious University Hospital and Medical School counts
among achievements, the design of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging
machine(MRI) (Science 1971 Mar 19;171(976):1151-3), the first artificial
heart, the first portable artificial kidney as well as the 1998 Nobel
prize

Dr. Houari is now pursuing a mixed Universitarian and
Clinical
career, receiving his academic training in diverse New York centers such
as
Columbia and Cornell Universities and treats patients from all countries.
He
is very well appreciated by his colleagues but above all by his residents
and medical students who acknowledge his teaching qualities. He plans to
sub-specialize in movement disorders and clinical neurophysiology and work
on research for a cure for diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis or
Alzheimer's dementia.
On a personal point of view, Dr. Houari comes from a family with
strong
scientific background as his father, Dr. Aziz Houari, an Electrical and
Nuclear physicist, was one of the very first University Professors in
Morocco and introduced the first research nuclear reactor to our home
country in 1991. Dr. Younes Houari is married to Seloua, Oral Surgeon, and
lives in Queens, NY. Through family and friends or through his homepage
links
(www.houari.tripod.com), he has helped many Moroccan fellows, either to
settle down in the United States and successfully integrate in our community
or
to achieve the incredibly complex process of joining American Medicine.
Finally Dr. Houari is proud to serve as a health consultant for Wafin.com and
our community in the US.
