MyriamMiryam Ahbabou

I grew up in Rabat. I spoke Amazigh and French for a long part of my childhood and didn’t know any Arabic until around first grade. In 1994 got my baccalaureat in Marketing from Descartes High School in Rabat and enrolled at Tangiers’ National School of Business and Management (ENCG) In 1998 I went to Agadir’s Canadian-Moroccan High Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism. I focused in Marketing Techniques applied to Tourism. I was later to be selected for an internship at Mericy College, in Quebec, Canada.

In March 2000 I came to Orlando, Florida, when I was brought in as an intern by the American Hospitality Academy to learn about Recreational Management in their resorts.

Wishing to see more of the United States, I ended up leaving for California a short time later; I am currently living in the San Francisco Bay Area, as an Art student. I love traveling, and I still don’t know what my next stop is will be after the U.S. One summer, at the young age of 5 years old, my dad put me on an airplane going to France. Since then, I have never stopped exploring and traveling. Morocco is still my favorite destination. As a matter of fact, in most of my drawings and paintings Moroccans shapes and colors inspire me. I also have a passion for driving. Even though I don’t know anything about cars I like fast cars.

My interests also include writing poetry and learning foreign languages.

Now, at age 26, I am doing pretty much everything I always wanted to do and my first ambition in life is to keep myself happy. It’s an everyday mission! Happiness is usually simpler than most people think. Everyone should be happy. Happiness is paying attention to all those small things that make us feel good everyday.

Note: Myriam Ahbabou came to our attention because she was the first one to suggest a National Reunion of Moroccans in the States.

Send us your recommendations for a Moroccan of the Month, with a brief bio and a picture if possible. If you think you should be a Moroccan of the month, there is nothing wrong with self-recommendations. We are looking for success stories, Moroccans who have accomplished "something," in the larger sense of the word.
