In addition, Ms. Bouhia manages new projects for the opening of new emerging markets for IBRD debt issuance, and for transacting in their currencies.  The opening of new markets is an assistance to countries from the developing world to access international debt markets, thus, bringing liquidity to emerging bonds markets and transferring expertise on markets regulations and international standards on financial infrastructure.

Ms. Bouhia has been at the World Bank since June 1996.  She joined through the Young Professional Program and worked for five years on the Bank’s lending operations.  She worked as a Water and Environmental Economist in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region; in Latin America Region on water sector strategy for Argentina and water quality control in Brazil and South East Asia Region (poverty reduction in Laos and hydropower projects in Thailand).  Before joining the Capital Markets and Financial Engineering Department in August 2001, Ms. Bouhia was a Special Assistant to the Vice President for Middle East and North Africa Region, working on economic, technical, diplomatic and other issues for countries of the MENA Region.

Ms. Bouhia holds a Ph.D. in Operations Research and Economic Development from Harvard University, an S.M. in Operations Research and Decision Theory from Harvard University, and a Diploma of Engineering from Ecole Centrale Paris in France.  Dr. Bouhia also hold a M.A. in International Economics and International Relations from The Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies.  Dr. Bouhia has published several academic papers and authored a book titled Water in the Macro Economy: Application of an Integrated Analytical Model, which was published with Ashgate (June 2001).

Hynd Bouhia was born in Casablanca and enjoys athletic and fitness activities.  She is a member of the Washington Conservatory of Music where she performs classical Piano.
